There are more hero dogs out there than there are posts on our site! The number is countless, and it’s impossible to find out all of their stories, but we do our best, and spread the word whenever we discover something. Layka, however, is not an accidental hero, she was trained to be one! She is a proper soldier!

While serving in Afghanistan she was shot four times at point-blank range, and despite her injuries, she still found the strength to attack and subdue the shooter. By doing this, she saved her handler and future owner and the other members of the team.

She was in a very bad condition, and the soldiers were sure that she wouldn’t make it but they did everything they could to help their savior. After her front leg was amputated, the pooch was able to recover fully! Watch the video to see what Layka is doing now.
